Best $25 Investment Ever
- When visiting Otavalo, the biggest market town in Ecuador you will find a huge variety of handicrafts. While they still continue to be colourful and the paterns are unique to Ecuador, much of what you will find is sadly factory made. However, you will still find items made by true local craftsman who carry the tradition of weaving from generations past. I bought a blanket from this man & I'm telling you I consider it THE BEST $25 investment I've ever made. Keeps me warm on cold Cuzco nights & I've never had a blanket that was warmer.

Soup for the Soul
- A little boy we met along the Lares Trek brought all 7 of us home with him. Altogether we ate yummy potato soup with guinea pigs running between our feet in a tiny dark kitchen in the house where he lived with his mother, grandmother & great grandmother. They were wonderful.

Making Friends
- Over the Easter Weekend, the G.A.P Cusco staff took advantage of the long weekend and did the 3-day Lares Trek which many G.A.P travellers come to Peru to do. In addition to the spectacular scenery, what made the trip so special was the friends we made along the way :)

Baby Sea Turtles in Costa Rica
- On the "Project Costa Rica" volunteer tour, G.A.P Adventures travellers spend 5 days working along side local and international volunteers to help protect endangered sea turtles. Volunteer activities include night patrols along the beach, data collection, beach clean-up and area maintenance, monitoring of the baby turtle hatchery, and if you happen to be there when the timing is right you'll get to count baby turtles and release them. This footage was taken as the baby turtles are being released into the ocean.

Earth Day in Cusco!
- In celebration of Earth Day, we planted 100 native trees and 100 flowers together with G.A.P Cusco staff, Tour Leaders, travellers, our local transport drivers and workers from the Wanchaq Municipality of Cusco. It was a beautiful sunny day, we worked hard, got dirty, but had fun & enjoyed every minute. Next time you are on the bus from Cusco to Puno or vice versa have a look out the window as you go down the Via Expressa and you can watch our trees grow. Happy Earth Day everyone :)

Just a quick note from me to say how incredibleI think Planeterra is and what a wonderful way for us to give back to the communitie s that we travel to and the destinatio ns that we see. While I haven't been to a project yet (and that's a big YET!) I've promoted them, I've donated to them, help raise funds and awareness to the projects and people I know who have been have loved the trips and the rewards they get from them.
I also donated on behalf of my niece Ivy last year because as an 11 year old she has everythingshe needs, but when I donate in her name she takes the time to learn about the projects and the people and the areas they are from. It helps to keep her grounded as well, and she has become very interested in the world, geography and poverty because of this. I think not only is it a great gift to those who it helps, but also to the people who 'give' the gift as it's education and a sense of accomplish ing something great!
